Cohort One (2019-2021)

  • Hisham Alsohybe is a candidate in Molecular & Cell Biology with an emphasis in Biochemistry. He plans to pursue a career in biomedical research after graduation. 
  • Jon Como is a candidate in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. He runs his own games-making business for the Roblox platform as well as produces original educational content for his Youtube channel. Jon hopes to continue producing free educational content about machine learning + AI for Youtube. 
  • Xiaoying Huang is a candidate in Chemistry. She intends on attending the UCSD School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences where she will pursue a career as a pharmacist after graduation.
  • Miri Choi is a candidate in Film, with a Creative Writing minor. She is passionate about non-fiction creative writing and looks forward to pursuing a career in film journalism. Her interests include global cinema, multimedia entertainment, and new media. 
  • Golsa Gheibi is a candidate in Chemistry. She is interested in a career that combines research in the pharmaceutical field as well as teaching. 
  • Hamza Kamran Khawaja is a candidate in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. He is passionate about artificial intelligence, energy, and physics and hopes to pursue a career that harnesses his knowledge and skills across these areas.
  • Seyedmohsen Mirmobini is a candidate in Mechanical Engineering. He plans on pursuing a career as an engineer after graduation.
  • Namra Sammee is a candidate in Molecular & Cell Biology with an emphasis in Neurobiology. She is participating in an entrepreneurial certification program at Berkeley to gain exposure to the field before continuing onto graduate school. 
  • Hannie Vo is a candidate in Mechanical Engineering and a research assistant at the Berkeley Lab. She looks forward to a career as a product design engineer after graduation. 
  • Michael Nash is a candidate in Mechanical Engineering who is passionate about American entrepreneurship and manufacturing. He plans on pursuing a master’s degree and has his sights set on working as an engineer, inventor, and founder. 
  • Nicolas Setyadi is a candidate in Economics and is interested in working in marketing at a startup after graduation. He is currently focused on learning more about entrepreneurship. Nicolas looks forward to the opportunity to help his family once he begins his career after graduation. 
  • Steven Wilson is a candidate in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. His web application, which delivers support services to community college students, has remained active throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. He looks forward to pursuing a career at a startup after graduation.

Cohort Two (2020-2022)

  • Darem Bardales plans on majoring in Physics. She is interested in a career in the climate change space, advocating for underserved communities who are disproportionately impacted by global warming and working to develop sustainable technologies at-scale. 
  • Valerie Ekko plans on majoring in Cognitive Science. She is interested in the intersection of mental health and employment. She hopes to address issues facing the elder population and unskilled workers. 
  • Mona Javaid is a candidate in English and Political Science. She intends on pursuing a law degree and career as a lawyer representing immigrant women who suffer from abuse.
  • Emily Carcamo is a candidate in Sociology. She wants to create a more inclusive and sustainable economy, and overcome gender and racial disparities through economic development programs in communities that traditionally experience limited funding. 
  • Lydia Hardee-Elliott is a candidate in Social Welfare. She intends on pursuing an advanced degree after Berkeley in order to make a meaningful impact on the ground for those with mental disorders. 
  • Maggie Knowlton is a candidate in English. She is a self-defined educator and hopes to earn an advanced degree and to pursue a career using skills of critical thinking and rhetoric.
  • Tasha Lewis is a candidate in Materials Science & Engineering. She is interested in making products such as air filters and batteries that are sustainable and renewable. She hopes her career will in a small part reverse the effects of climate change. 
  • Louie Ortiz plans on majoring in Data Science. He hopes to utilize his knowledge to improve machine learning so that it benefits marginalized and diverse communities, to strengthen their economic growth.
  • Howard Li is a candidate in Business Administration. He is interested in supporting small businesses by providing consulting services to help them be competitive in the market and grow. His passion stems from seeing beloved businesses fail in his native Oakland area. 
  • Ruben Pulido plans on majoring in Computer Science. He hopes to start an organization that helps disadvantaged students gain access to the internet so that they can take advantage of opportunities to learn about STEM. He has seen first-hand how access to the internet can help propel you in society and wants to share his knowledge. 
  • Jacob Rubio is a candidate in English. He intends on earning a Master’s degree in English. He hopes to utilize his life’s experience as Latinx, gay, and from a low-income background to inspire high school or community college students to push forward in their own lives.

Cohort Three (2021-2023)

  • Masoma Naseri is a candidate in Bioengineering. Through CRISPR technology and her field of study she aims to discover treatments and cures for those who suffer from chronic diseases. Masoma strives to create breakthroughs in biomedical research to fight Cerebral Palsay and Parkinson's disease.
  • Oscar Loyola is a candidate in Business Administration. Oscar is passionate about creating well-thought-out financial plans for families, so he can empower individuals from low-income from backgrounds, like his. Oscar hopes to help low income families learn about wealth management.
  • Preston Hong is a candidate in Mechanical Engineering. Preston hope to establish a car manufacturing company called “Vision Motors” that is tailored to helping the visually impaired achieve self-sufficient transportation in day-to-day life using advanced AI.
  • Ameneh Gharabi is a candidate in Molecular and Cell Biology. Ameneh aspires to be an Oncologist with a Ph.D./MD to help low-income underserved communities maintain equitable access to health care.
  • Katerine Ojeda is a candidate in Sociology. Katerine hopes to obtain a master’s degree in clinical psychology to counsel those who struggle with drug addictions. Katerine hopes to utilize the knowledge learned at Cal to provide mental health services to rural communities.
  • Dennis Tercero Macua is a candidate in Mechanical Engineering. Dennis hopes to become a university professor and engineer to inspire those great scientists and engineers yet to come.
  • David Rouxel is a candidate in Business Administration. David has an interest in helping others get out debt by way of financial literacy. David hopes that his experience as a veteran and success in business will catapult him into a position where he can help reform the Department of Veteran's Affairs.
  • Jairo Corral Chavez is a candidate in Mathematics.  Jairo hopes to develop micro-loans to empower local entrepreneurs across dozens of developing countries. Jairo believes that financing and employing capital into domestic communities of color will allow urban centers to redevelop and reinvent themselves to thrive in this new economy.
  • Shirali Thakkar is a candidate in Psychology. Shirali is a pre-medical student who aspires to conduct research in  nanoneuroscience and clinical psychology.
  • Bryce Wallace is a candidate in English. While in community college, Bryce devoted some of his time teaching English to non-native speakers. This drives his desire to teach English abroad as well as in rural areas. 
  • Jayden Zheng is a candidate in Economics. Jayden hopes to develope a business that uses simulation video games to improve sports education and tactics training.  
  • Kobe Cuellar is a candidate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Kobe hopes to assist in the development of technology behind medical robotics, for their possible useful impact on society.
  • Fernando Cardenas is a candidate in Mechanical Engineering. Fernando is interested in revolutionizing the transportation industry. He plans to develop breakthroughs in robotics to enhance the technology of self driving vehicles.
  • Dhoha Bareche is a candidate in Rhetoric. Dhoha plans to pursue a career in journalism to illuminate corruption and media censorship in the Middle East.
