Current Job Description: I am working in the R&D department, which is developing the next-generation X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) metrology tool. I am responsible for designing the mechanical subsystem, generating technical drawings and BOM, as well as preparing test plans and building prototypes.
How has the Sharer Foundation supported you to get where you are now in your career?
The Sharer Foundation provided me with invaluable financial support and professional development opportunities. Thanks to the program, I could focus more on my studies and build skills for my future. I also learned a lot about networking and leadership, which gave me the confidence to grow professionally. Those experiences really shaped my mindset and played a big role in landing my first job in the semiconductor industry right after graduation.
Has the Sharer Foundation supported you in personal ways?
As a first-generation college student and non-English speaker, I struggled with self-doubt when I first came to Cal. The Sharer program gave me a sense of belonging by surrounding me with students who understood my journey. Some became close friends, and we supported each other through school and beyond. Having that community made a huge difference, helping me build confidence and stay motivated throughout my time at Cal.
What advice would you give to prospective Sharer Scholars on how to succeed at Cal?
Prioritize networking and improving communication skills. Focus on project-based classes and activities that help build resumes and prepare for a future career as soon as possible.
